Designing the Best Glamping Site in Scotland – How We Did It

Glamping is absolutely booming at the moment. It is the type of holiday you could go on with anyone, from your grandparents to your boyfriend or girlfriend. Glamping sites are popping up quicker than ever, trying to keep up with the demand to stay in them.

The Scottish Outdoor Leisure awards recognise a number of different things to do with outdoor leisure in Scotland, with the most important one being – the best glamping site in Scotland.

We designed North Coast 500 Pods – officially the best glamping site in Scotland.

Here’s how we did it.

Best Glamping Site in Scotland Awards

The Scottish Outdoor Leisure awards are the main awards in Scotland for outdoor leisure…. obviously. The have a number of different awards for various different things – including the best glamping site in Scotland. With North Coast 500 Pods only being open for 4 months when it got shortlisted as a nominee for the award it came as a bit of a shock. We knew it was a fantastic site but we didn’t expect the recognition after such a short time.

The event was fantastic and the category for best glamping included 17 nominees from the 100s of sites around the country. Tough competition for sure but the fantastic design we created at North Coast 500 Pods won them the award… as well as a few other things.

The Design of North Coast 500 Pods

There are a few things in the design that set NC500 Pods ahead of the rest. Let’s start from the start. We (Ali and Calum), own both Glampitect and NC500 Pods (the best glamping site in Scotland) have been travelling to a little place called Achmelvich Beach for as long as we can both remember. This place just happens to be one of the best beaches on the North Coast 500. With the rise of the North Coast 500, we realised there was a distinct lack of high quality North Coast 500 accommodation and we wanted to do something about it. So we did what anyone would do – designed and built a glamping site.

We know however, that the most important thing to do when designing something, it to design it like you’re going to have to use it forever. So we designed NC500 Pods just like that. We made everything high quality, fun and interesting. That’s really it. We included a fantastic communal area for everyone to meet up and have barbecues and chill by the fire on a massive beanbag. Further, we used some of the most fantastic glamping pods on the market today – Lune Valley Pods – with all the trimmings (kitchen, bathroom, comfy double bed and underfoor heating).  We also included some unexpected treats like Amazon Alexas, voice controlled lighting, Netflix and more! That’s how we made the best glamping site in Scotland.

The Added Touches

As mentioned, we added all the trimmings. We have a fantastic communal area with fire pit, barbecue and big bean bags to chill out with your friends at.

The lights…. do we need to say any more?

The Relationships Make the Best Glamping Site in Scotland

This is so important and it is bypassed by so many people. The relationships forged throughout the process are what brings the ultimate success. Designing the best glamping site in Scotland would not have been possible without the input of all our friends and family that helped us along the way to bring it to life. It would not have been possible without the local businesses that input to this business every day…. and it certainly wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic people that have come and stayed at the pods this year!
